Forest School

Our school’s dedicated woodland and outdoor spaces provide a vibrant, natural setting where children can step away from the desk and into a world of discovery. It’s a place where the fresh air sparks imagination and the environment becomes a living teacher. Rather than just reading about the world, our students experience it firsthand – getting hands-on with nature to build the confidence, grit, and curiosity they need to thrive.

We focus on emotional intelligence and social skills just as much as physical ability, ensuring children grow holistically.Forest school develops confidence & independence as children have the freedom to explore – this helps them to trust their own instincts and make their own decisions.Healthy bodies are equally important to us at forest school! Navigating uneven ground and climbing through the trees builds core strength, balance, and coordination.Nature doesn’t come with an instruction manual! Children learn to think on their feet, manage risks, and keep trying until they succeed. This helps to develop resilience within our children here at Stanah.

Our sessions are packed with variety, ensuring there is something to capture every child’s imagination:

  • Woodland Crafts: We use natural treasures like sticks, clay, and stones to make everything from seasonal crowns to rustic bird feeders.
  • Discovery & Wildlife: From tracking animal footprints to identifying trees and plants, we are constantly learning how to protect and care for our local environment.
  • Building & Engineering: Children work together to build sturdy dens, create woodland shelters, and learn the basics of outdoor problem-solving.
  • Senses & Wellbeing: We take time to notice the small things – the crunch of autumn leaves, the smell of the forest after rain, and the peace of being outdoors.
